Healthy Days: How to Lose Weight Without Losing Your Mind

Few people enjoy the thought of having to lose a few pounds and it is no coincidence that diet is a four letter word.  If you find that your drawer has magically shrunk your clothes as a new season approaches, don’t panic.

A few healthy days may be all you need to get back in your old wardrobe without restricting every calorie that you eat.

With the healthy day approach, you can take baby steps at getting the weight off without feeling totally overwhelmed with having to lose all of your excess weight immediately.  One major reason dieters fail is because they do not see results right away and they lose hope. 

No matter how many pounds you have to lose, start by having one healthy day.  During this day, eat enough calories with the idea that if you ate this way every day, you would lose 1 to 2 pounds a week.  Eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables.  Drink water instead of soda.  Go for a short walk.  Focus on moving instead of sitting.  If you have laundry to do, finish it all.  Keep busy during your healthy skinny day.  Know that no matter what, today you are acting as a healthy person.

You may find that you were very successful during your healthy day.  You got many tasks accomplished, you ate well, and you were able to exercise much more than you thought you’d be able to.  With the concept of healthy days, there is no pressure to think about the next day and therefore the changes do not have a forever, I’ll never get through it feeling.

As you focus on healthy days, you may find that you can only handle one or two a week.  This is completely fine.  Prior to adding healthy days to your schedule, you weren’t thinking at all about eating healthier or exercising.  A little bit is better than nothing at all.  You are trying to change your mindset about eating and this takes time.  Be kind to yourself and you may find that you start to look forward to your healthy days when you know you are treating yourself well.

It is likely that after a few months, you will begin having more healthy days than not.  When you eat well and exercise regularly, you will feel better.  Healthy days only have to be days, but finding your inner healthy person may help you look and feel like the healthy person you are inside.
